Dr. Meelu Verma, has a Doctorate in Phyto pesticidal Toxicology, a Masters in Entomology and a Graduate degree in Life Science from M.G.P.G.College, Gorakhpur. She is a Grade artist from All India Radio, New Delhi.
Born and brought up in Gorakhpur, music has been Meelu’s vocation since childhood. Acquiring the right foundations from greats such as the Late Pt. Ram Narayan Mani Tripathi, Smt. Nargis Warsi (Saini Gharana) and Pt. Mohinder Sarin, she further had the opportunity to learn from the Late Vidushi Savita Devi, Thumri Doyen of Benaras Gharana. Meelu has acquired the finer nuances and stylistic techniques of classical as well as light music.
A leading news paper once presented her personality as a calm, creative and an inspired perfectionist. In her opinion every natural thing, has an artistic side, expressed through their own sounds, emotions and expression and these stimulate an artist's creativity.
With a flair of innovation and a deep understanding of Indian ragas, Meelu has a developed her own individualistic style of singing. In recent years, she has performed Thumri and Ghazals for many reputed organizations like IIC Delhi, IHC Delhi, Epicentre Gurgaon, Lok Kala Manch, CSOI Delhi to name a few.
Meelu also has been awarded with the Distinguished Women Achievers Award in 2018.
